A young student, Tanka, from a working-class district, falls in love with a teacher, the intelligent Seryozha, who dreams of leaving for Moscow from the dullness of a provincial town. Seryozha realizes late what kind of girl is in front of him, and that his dreams are no longer destined to come true.
